Behaviors That May Signify a Problem

Children have a difficult time recognizing whether they have a vision problem because they have no basis for comparison. There are several key signals that indicate vision problems:
  • Rubbing of the eyes
  • Complaining often of headaches
  • Squinting
  • Holding objects unusually close or far away
  • Excessive blinking
  • Favoring one eye by covering it or turning the head
  • Eyes are not aligned or are not working together
  • Eyes are red, swollen or encrusted
  • Your child experiences recurring stys or infections on eyelids
