I went in for a routine eye exam to check my prescription. My annual eye exams are covered under my plan and I should have paid nothing out of pocket. I declined additional screens (as they like to upsell) since I had been so closely monitored by the doctors with my eye surgeries. The doctor did not perform any additional procedures or screens. They instead charged me for an office visit because I had eye surgeries in the past. No extra work on their behalf; just because I had eye surgery in the past.\n\nI used a different chain doctor a year ago (VisionWorks) and was not charged for a medical visit when I went to have the same thing done.\n\nOther than that, I found the doctor very pleasant; just she didn't do anything different than the VisionWorks doctor.\n\nThey would rather lose a customer for $35 then do the right thing. They were not transparent at all about additional costs of the appointment. I went in for an annual eye exam through my insurance and was charged additional fees for multiple things. They charged me more for my appointment because I wear contacts despite the fact that I have been wearing contacts for over ten years and it was not a first time contact appointment. They also charged me for an imagining fee when I had filled out my paperwork and put no to that imagining cost. When I called to ask about why my copay for the appointment was so extensive as I had never paid that much for an annual eye exam copay they were very condescending on the phone. They stated that when the doctor asked during my appointment if I wanted to use the retinal images they had or to dilate my eyes that this was the additional imaging fee. The doctor never once stated there would be additional cost for the images they had already taken at the start of the appointment. So I said we could use what was easier since we already had taken the photos and they had not told me there would be a cost difference. When I called on the phone the woman stated sorry he should have connected the dots for you that this was the additional imaging costs. I explained to her that I was confused as I had put no to imaging costs on my forms and was not sure why these photos would be taken in the first place and offered to be used without an explanation that it would be another cost when I had already stated I did not want those ones. They told me they could send me a copy of my receipt so I can look over it but that was all that was handled over the phone. Costco’s inventory is not always completely on display. You have to ask.
