I needed new contacts and new eyeglasses. Conveniently for them, they waited until after they had put the dilation drops in my eyes to have me look over the paperwork, when my eyes could not focus on objects close to me so I was having trouble reading the amounts owed and I was getting motion sick because of it. I relied on the employee helping me to explain the bill to me. They offered me a deal, buy 1 get 1 free. I paid $300 and I thought my insurance was covering the remaining balance. Later that night when the dilation wore off and I was reading my bill none of my insurance payments were on there and it said I had a balance of over $300 still owed.\nI called the store and asked them to explain. They told me they have no idea what my insurance covers until they get a check from them. This makes no sense to me, they should have called and check my coverage before billing me. They told me they anticipated my insurance only covering $70 and I would be responsible for the rest. I told the girl during my appointment I do not want to spend more than $300 total. They then told me if they cancelled the \"free\" pair then that would drop the balance by $300 - how is a pair of FREE glasses costing me $300 more?! After feeling like I was taken advantage of in the store I asked to cancel both pairs of glasses and be refunded, as I do not feel comfortable with how they run their business. Taking all of my hard earned money to fund the Doctor's 5 boats that he was bragging about to me. They told me they can cancel the free pair but not the other pair. I am extremely upset and frustrated. The staffing is mean, horrible, and inconsiderate. I wish I had never gone there. My advice: Buyers beware. So here's my story. I have vision insurance. Went in for first time for my daughter's glasses. My insurance covered the cost, but I also had a bill for those added services for things like tinting they recommend. At the conclusion, I wrote a check for $75. When I got home I immediately realized after talking with my husband that I should not have used the account written on. And so I called them immediately to have them hold the check, not process the order, and I would bring in cash. I called again. I then went in with the cash only to be told they had deposited the check. I asked why after having called and asked them not to. After all they had been paid for their services through the insurance money. This cost was for merchandise, which could have waited to be ordered. And, as suspected the check was returned. Next, I get a return fee from them for the check I asked not to be cashed. No problem, I'll pay it. But then, I get a threatening call from the Brighton Police Department threaten me with criminal action if I do not immediately go into the Pearle Vision and pay them for the returned check. Is that what the Brighton Police do? Call on $75 returned checks and threaten people? Is that what Pearle Vision does to its insurance paying customers? Seriously. I understand I made a mistake with that check. I admitted it and went in to give them cash. But calling the police on me and having me threatened with prosecution. There is something seriously wrong with that Pearle Vision and its employees. Unbelievable. The officer told they need the money (mind you $75) to meet payroll. Well, based on what I just experienced, it is any wonder they have customers at all. Once I picked a pair she started adding everything thing up for me (before I got my exam or anything) and I showed her a coupon I had printed off from the Pearle Vision website (it was 50% off when you buy contacts and glasses). She went and asked about it and came back and told me they couldn't accept it because it was a corporate coupon and they are a franchise-ok fine no big deal. Then, again she added things up-told me I was getting a 20% discount on my frames and told me the total-I said 'ok, I am paying with Care Credit'. She went back up and was asking more questions then came back and told me I could not use the Care Credit on the glasses because I was already getting a discount on the glasses and her manager pays 13% for transactions on the Care Credit machine. I said 'Ok forget the glasses then, also you really should tell people things like that over the phone'. She did not apologize-just walked away. So I went over to the frames I had picked out and wrote down the product number so I could potentially order them somewhere else or online. I got called into the exam room by the Doctor-who I actually really liked. After the exam was done I went back out to wait for the Doctor to exam my eyes after contacts were put in and started looking at the frames again and writing down product numbers. The sales women walks over to me and says 'Are you going to buy frames today' which I replied 'No, I am writing down the ones I like so I can get them somewhere else' and she replied 'My manager does not want you doing that. She hand picks theses glasses and doesn't want you to write down the numbers' which I reply 'are you kidding me' then I go sit down. I know at this point I should have just walked out but I REALLY needed contacts. I was furious. After another quick exam I come out and she tells me how they are going to order trial pairs of contacts for me so the Doctor can make sure they work out, then they will order a year supply and I say ok. She walks back up to the desk and I hear her discussing with the 'manager' that she needs to order the year supply because she does not want to run my Care Credit card twice because it costs money. So she comes back and tells me she is going to order the year supply. I received no apology-NOTHING. I know I should have walked out but I desperately needed contacts and I was already there. I work in a small business customer service industry and where I work we do accept Care Credit. We would NEVER treat someone like this and if a situation occurred that made a customer mad-we would apologize and try and fix it. Businesses should strive for excellent customer service-not be rude to people. Clearly they don't though or these reviews would be much better. To me if Care Credit is such a big cost to them-then don't have it.
