I was given a new contact and glasses prescription, and while waiting for my glasses to come in, I wore trial contacts. I could not see clearly out of them at all. I gave myself several days to adjust, assuming it might take time, but my vision remained blurry and uncomfortable.\nWhen my glasses arrived, I immediately said “woah” when I put them on because the prescription felt drastically different. I became dizzy almost instantly. I was told it was likely because I was trying them on at the end of the day. However, when I tried them again the next morning with fresh eyes, I felt nauseous, off-balance, and as though the room was spinning. I did not feel stable standing in my own kitchen and certainly did not feel safe driving.\nI called to express my concerns, making it very clear that something did not feel right and that I felt unsafe wearing the glasses. I was advised to “wear them for 1–2 weeks to get used to them,” despite describing significant dizziness and instability. I am also 33 weeks pregnant, which made the situation even more alarming. I was not offered a recheck appointment, nor was there any urgency shown regarding my safety.\nGiven how poorly I was feeling, I sought a second opinion at Target Optical. I paid $175 for a comprehensive exam, and the doctor there immediately identified that the prescription I had been given was too strong. She expressed concern that I had been advised to continue wearing it and stated that I should have been re-evaluated when I first reported symptoms.\nAlthough I did not want to return to Pearle Vision after this experience, I ultimately went to a different location (not Dove Valley) to have the lenses corrected. The staff there agreed that I should have been brought back in for a recheck as soon as I reported dizziness and instability.\nThis experience was frustrating, expensive, and, most importantly, felt unsafe. The doctor is the only genuinely friendly professional working. The rest of the staff all likely believe themselves underpaid (and are probably so); but they act accordingly. While one person is reluctantly accepting your insurance (with a scowl), another is aggressively pushing their overpriced frames while silently judging you. I could practically cut the tension with a knife after multiple polite refusals. Testing equipment was dirty and (at one point) had to wipe the lenses clean myself, before I felt confident in my prescription. I'd knock another star off for how bad the scheduling experience was, but unfortunately, this is the way almost every office is set up to function these days, and it feels like its been this way for decades. The whole enterprise now feels entirely arcane, invasive, and painfully inefficient in today's day.
