If I could leave zero stars I would. This place is very unprofessional. I had an appointment scheduled for me and my daughter. She called my phone numerous times prior to the appointment and then started texting me back to back. I told the young lady that I had new insurance and would see them at my appointment time that I already CONFIRMED, She proceeded to be very nasty and unprofessional in the text messages that she couldn’t verify my insurance and that if I didn’t text her right back she would cancelled my appointments. AND SHE DID! I called to speak to a manager to address my frustration and that JERK answered and said I’m the manager and that it was ok for her to talk to me however she wanted to!!!!! I guess they figured if they couldn’t find my insurance they couldn’t make money because Thats all they care about. I’m done with this place! Don’t waste your time going here. Reviews speak volume and their reviews are spot on. This place is Horrible!!!!!!! I will take my new Insurance to a PROFESSIONAL OFFICE THAT VALUES CUSTOMERS!!!!

Great place my wife and I been going here for past 4 years. The owners Mike and Jen are so helpful and try to work with you! They are very hands on at the store and try to get to know their customers. Dr Ryan is great and takes the time to explain things, answer any questions and address any issues you have.

Horrible Experience, Unprofessional and Discriminatory
About a month ago, my wife and I visited this Pearle Vision location in summerville to purchase progressive lenses. I have worn progressive lenses for many years and always had them done correctly in Miami. After moving here, we trusted this clinic—and that was a serious mistake.
This has been an absolute nightmare. My prescription was done incorrectly FOUR times. Each time, I returned respectfully to address their mistakes. During my third visit, an employee named Mike was extremely rude and unprofessional, telling me that if I came back again, I would be charged—despite the errors being entirely their fault.
Out of frustration and concern for my safety, I went to another clinic and paid out of pocket for a proper eye exam. That doctor confirmed that Pearle Vision’s prescription was completely wrong, which explains the distorted vision I was experiencing while trying to work.
On my fourth visit, I brought the correct prescription and calmly requested either that my glasses be remade properly or that I receive a refund of the $600+ I paid. Mike refused both requests in a disrespectful and aggressive manner.
When I stated that I would file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, he escalated the situation by calling the police and falsely claiming that I threatened him. Even worse, he made racist remarks to 911, pointing out that I am Hispanic and implying I might not be legally in the country—an outrageous and false statement, as I am a U.S. citizen.
The police arrived but did nothing to resolve the prescription issue or the refund. Instead, I was informed that a restraining order had been issued against me, while the clinic continues to keep my money and refuses to correct their errors.
This experience was unacceptable, unethical, and discriminatory. Pearle Vision at this location has shown complete disregard for patient care, professionalism, and basic human respect. I strongly advise anyone considering this location to stay away.

Extremely Disappointing and Unprofessional Experience.
Nearly a month ago, my husband and I went to this Pearle Vision location to purchase progressive lenses. We have both worn progressives for many years and always had them done in Miami. After moving to South Carolina, we were looking for a reliable and professional clinic. Unfortunately, choosing this location was a serious mistake.
From the moment you walk in, the staff is rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. When I picked up my glasses the first time, they were made incorrectly and I had to return them. What was absolutely unacceptable was when Mike suggested that I buy cheap glasses from Amazon just to use the computer—after I had already paid $600 for progressive lenses that are supposed to provide distance, intermediate, and near vision. That comment alone shows a shocking lack of professionalism and knowledge.
To make matters worse, I waited over three weeks without receiving a single call. When I finally went to the office in person, I was told my glasses had been ready for quite some time and no one ever bothered to notify me.
The situation escalated further when my husband requested a copy of his prescription and the staff refused to provide it, which is completely unacceptable and unethical. In addition, I was charged for wide-view progressive lenses but was given narrow-view lenses instead. When I pointed out the mistake, they refused to fix it or remake the lenses. I was forced to keep glasses that were made incorrectly simply because they did not want to take responsibility for their error.
This experience was stressful, frustrating, and extremely expensive. This location shows a complete lack of respect for customers, terrible communication, and zero accountability. I strongly do NOT recommend this clinic to anyone—especially if you need progressive lenses.

Please save yourself time and aggravation! I scheduled with Dr Ryan Fullen based on reviews and recommendation. Upon arriving at my appointment I was seen by another DR. I wasn't going to make a scene it wasn't her fault. Now I am not happy with my prescription and have asked to be seen as a follow up with Dr Ryan, "MIKE" or "MICHAEL" who is possibly an owner? wants to mansplain things and not listen. Says that I am NOT going to see Dr Ryan since that is not who I saw to begin with even though that is who I requested the appointment with. All he offered was trying to push me to order glasses, probably because of the markup! PLEASE DO NOT SPEND YOUR PRECIOUS TIME OR MONEY WITH THIS ORGANIZATION.
Update to my original review (posted 12/16/2025):
On the morning of 12/17/2025, I received a phone call from “Mike,” who informed me that because I had written a review, the practice would no longer see me for continued care. He stated that if I wanted to “play stupid games,” I would receive “stupid prizes.” When I requested my medical records, the call was abruptly terminated.
I cannot emphasize this enough: learn from my experience and avoid this establishment. This is especially unfortunate, as Dr. Doan (sp?) and the rest of the staff were professional and pleasant. I genuinely feel for anyone who has to work with/for under someone who conducts himself in this manner.

Mike was extremely rude and wouldn’t let me see the doctor I made an appointment with. He tried to tell me what contacts I needed and was sarcastic and disrespectful. I would not recommend going here.

I wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody! I’ve had nothing but issues, and the office has refused to provide me with copies of my medical records when I switched providers, which is a violation of my rights as a patient. I also discover this place has a BBB Rating of F - with 121 unresolved complaints filed against them in the past 3 years! Take your business elsewhere.

DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICES. This place isn’t an optometry office that cares; it’s an eyewear boutique with an MD attached to justify the markup. And perhaps my expectations for a patient/doctor relationship is unrealistic for an optometrist. Maybe I'm just expected to be a person wanting to buy contacts/glasses, and then figure out everything else on my own. I can do that on Amazon! They definitely don't leave you feeling like you are their patient and that they are actually concerned with helping you...you are just another insurance reimbursement. This doctor needs to remember that he is their to help his patients, not the other way around. If a patient needs to return several times to work out issues with contacts or glasses, then the doctor should gladly and willingly help! That's what a good doctor would do!...not deny service to his patient. But unfortunately, you won't find that here. If you want an actual doctor who listens, explains, works with you to find what works best for you to completion, and treats you like a patient instead of a commission check, go somewhere else.

Dr. Allen, Billy Jean, and Mike are amazing!!! Love me some them!
