So I recently had an eye exam through Pearl Vision and received my eyeglass prescription by email. After reviewing it, I noticed the pupillary distance (PD) measurement was missing. When I contacted the office and spoke with Tanner, I was told that obtaining my PD would cost an additional $25 fee... unless I purchased glasses through Pearl Vision, in which case it would be included for free.
What upset me was not necessarily the fee itself, but the lack of transparency from the beginning. At no point during my exam or checkout process was I informed that my full measurements would be WITHHELD unless I paid extra or purchased glasses directly from the store. When I asked why this was not disclosed upfront, I was unable to get a straight answer.
This made me feel pressured into buying expensive glasses directly through Pearl Vision in order to avoid an additional charge for information that should have been clearly addressed from the start. Transparency matters, especially in healthcare-related services.
While $25 may not seem like much, it’s the principle of the situation and the poor communication that has made me reconsider returning or continuing business with this location in the future. So just an FYI if you consider this business moving forward.

If that was truly the policy, it should have been clearly disclosed at the time of service—not after the fact when I requested my information. Transparency matters.
You mention frames starting at $99, but that figure is equally misleading without context. What is not publicly emphasized is that lenses can easily cost $400 or more depending on a patient's prescription, lens material, coatings, and vision needs. Just as patients deserve full disclosure regarding eyewear costs, they also deserve full disclosure regarding any fees associated with obtaining measurements or records related to their prescription.
My concern is not the existence of a fee. My concern is the lack of communication. Had I been informed upfront that obtaining a PD measurement without purchasing glasses would incur an additional charge, I could have made an informed decision before my appointment. Instead, that information was only provided after the fact, which is what I find disappointing and unprofessional.

I had such a wonderful experience at Pearle Vision! The team took so much time helping me pick out my Silhouette frames and never once made me feel rushed.
Meighan was incredibly knowledgeable about Silhouette frames and knew all the different combinations to help make them perfect for me! Josie was also so patient, helpful, and genuinely cared about making sure I found the right pair.
Everyone was so kind and professional throughout the entire process. I really appreciated the attention and care they gave me — customer service like that is hard to find these days. Highly recommend!

I had a really frustrating experience at Pearle Vision. I went in expecting a routine contact lens exam and was never informed that I was being given a premium contact exam that would cost extra. At no point during the appointment did anyone explain the additional fee or ask if I wanted to proceed with an upgraded exam.
Only when it was time to check out did I find out I was being charged for this “premium” service. Being surprised with unexpected charges at the end of a visit is unacceptable and feels misleading. Patients should be clearly informed of costs before services are performed so they can make an informed decision.
Transparency matters, especially when it comes to healthcare and out-of-pocket expenses. Because of this experience, I won’t be returning and would encourage others to ask detailed pricing questions upfront.

First, I was very pleased with the eye exam. Dr. Wells was great. However, the script did not include the Pupil distance. Most all my past exams anywhere it was documented with the prescription.
That was not the case today. I asked the sales person what that measurement was. BTW, PD Pupil distance is measured by that device that looks like a hand held binoculars. Her reply was, its free if you purchase glasses. If not, its another $25.00. Be real here, your telling me that was no part of the exam. That to me is plain nonsense, not to mention crooked business. Anyway, she got an attitude, oh well. So, be sure to get what you expect. Clearly, that did not happen.

I had an excellent experience at this Pearle Vision Bulverde office. The service was outstanding—everyone in the office was friendly and welcoming. I appreciated that I didn’t have to wait long before being called in for my appointment. The Doctor Lorena Gonzalez took the time to explain everything in detail and was very patient, answering all my questions thoroughly. I also loved how easy it was to pick out my new glasses, and they had them ready for me to take home the same day within minutes. Highly recommend!
